Students will:

 

Comprehension

 

1.    read a variety of plays from different genres.

 

2.    read for content, enjoyment, analysis, and design.

 

Written and Oral

 

1.    write and explain the history of directing from the Greeks to present day.

 

2.    demonstrate directing in each of the theatrical historical periods, style, and acting philosophy.

 

3.    analyze and critique professional, amateur, peer, and self performances.

 

4.    exhibit understanding of actor’s voice, body, and mind as tools for communication character.

 

5.    direct in a variety of surroundings and partners.

 

6.    develop a production book including production analysis, scene breakdown with production overview, character overview, contact sheet, schedule of rehearsals, props list, proposed budget, and design notes.

 

7.    improve actor’s projection, enunciation, diction, and inflection.

 

8.    write and explain the artistic vision of a selected play.

 

9.    practice auditioning procedure, protocol, and materials.

 

10. practice working with a script for creative and logical character development.

 

11. demonstrate understanding of vocal and physical interpretation.

 

12. understand the role of the actor and director in the theatrical process.

 

13. aid in the character development of the actor’s in the school play.

Conventions

 

1.    write and speak using conventional grammar, usage, sentence structure, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling.

 

2.    incorporate theatrical jargon into production language.

1.    link present entertainment design, writing, and acting trends to those in history.

 

2.    explain and present theatre’s relationship and influence upon religion, society, media, and entertainment.

 

3.    analyze a character including background, age, race, motivation, obstacles, relationship to other characters, and purpose in scene.

 

4.    demonstrate effective leadership skills.

 

5.    evaluate script for appropriateness.
