Students will:

 

Comprehension

 

1.    understand the advantages of skillful speaking in a democracy and in career and personal situations through reading.

 

2.    understand the competitive speaking process through reading.

 

3      define and explain the elements of speeches.

 

Written and Oral

 

1.    increase speaking and writing vocabulary.

 

2.    speak and write for a variety of purposes and audiences.

 

3.    utilize the correct format of a speech.

 

4.    develop consistent delivery techniques including nonverbal communication, vocal expression, diction, word choice, and figurative language.

 

5.    practice appropriate interpersonal communication skills.

 

6.    utilize an outline as a prewriting and delivery tool.

 

7.    write concise, unified, cohesive speeches.

 

8.    identify and demonstrate the tools of a speaker: voice, body, and mind.

 

9.    communicate the elements of fiction through pantomime and speaking.

 

10. understand effective speaking through gestures, interpretation of literature, impromptu speaking, creative storytelling, Congressional Debate, and oral expository.

 

11. accept then utilize positive and negative critiques to improve speeches.

 

12. present constructive criticism concerning other’s speeches.

 

13. practice the competitive speaking process through reading.
