Debate I

 

Students will:

 

Comprehension

 

1.    read, understand, and apply the historical context and implications of current events to the debate topic.

 

Written and Oral

 

1.    speak and write for a variety of purposes and audiences including commentary, debate case on current topic, negative case on current topic, inherence brief, oratory, bill or resolution, and interview.

 

2.    utilize the correct format of a speech and case.

 

3.    develop confident and consistent delivery techniques including nonverbal communication, vocal expression, diction, word choice, antithesis, cross-examination, and figurative language.

 

4.    define and integrate content related words correctly in debate situations.  Areas include: analysis, research, reasoning, fundamentals, affirmative case, negative analysis, delivery, and cross-examination.

 

5.    utilize an outline as a pre-writing and delivery tool.

 

6.    actively participate in in-class debates.

 

7.    demonstrate debate skills in on-going, competitive, co-curricular tournaments.

 

8.    demonstrate knowledge of parliamentary procedure.

 

9.    present evidence demonstrating general knowledge of the current National Forensic League debate topic through extensive reading.
