1.    read familiar text fluently by:

·      reading aloud with fluency;

·      using punctuation to gain meaning: period, comma, question mark, exclamation point;

·      adjusting the reading rate to match purpose, style, and difficulty of text.

3.    learn the writing process by:

·      generating topics through pre-writing activities (for example, brainstorming, webbing, mapping, drawing, K-W-L charts, group discussion);

·      aligning a purpose (for example, to entertain, to inform, to communicate) with an audience;

·      writing a first draft with the necessary components for a specific genre;

·      revising draft content (for example, organization, relevant details, clarity);

·      editing revised drafts using resources (for example, dictionary, word lists, thesaurus, spell check, glossary, grammar, and usage reference);

·      proofreading revised drafts; presenting a final copy according to purpose (for example, read aloud, display, publish, mail, send, and perform).

 

4.    apply the traits of ideas, organization, voice, word choice, and conventions by:

Conventions

 

1.    Spelling:

·      correctly spell 200 high frequency words;

·      use transitional spelling on less common words;

·      apply common spelling patterns and rules.

 

2.    Grammar:

·      correctly use parts of speech including pronouns, nouns, and verbs;

·      correctly use plural form of nouns;

·      recognize synonyms, antonyms, and multiple meaning words.

 

3.    Punctuation:

·      correctly use exclamation marks.

 

4.    Capitalization:

·      correctly use capitalization including most proper nouns and titles.

 

5.    Handwriting:
