Students will:

 

Comprehension

 

1.    retell a story in order using main events.*

 

2.    explain the sequence of steps in a process.*

5.    differentiate between main ideas and details.*

 

6.    summarize, including main topic and essential details.

10. integrate cueing systems: meaning, structure, and visual.*

 

11. apply vowel combinations in reading and writing.*

Written and Oral

 

1.    read fluently on familiar text by:

·      using punctuation to gain meaning (quotation marks);

·      reading aloud with fluency and expression.

 

2.    use new vocabulary in oral and written responses.

3.    write in a variety of modes, such as short personal narratives, friendly letters,    and brief expository pieces (informational paragraph or how-to-paragraph) for the purpose of informing or explaining to a variety of audiences.

 

4.    learn about the writing process by:

·      generating topics through pre-writing activities (for example, brainstorming, webbing, mapping, drawing, K-W-L charts, group discussion);

·      aligning purpose (for example, to entertain, to inform, and to communicate) with an audience;*

·      write a first draft with necessary components for a specific genre;

·      revise draft content (for example, organization, relevant details, clarity);

·      edit revised draft using resources (for example, dictionary, word lists, thesaurus, spell check, glossary, grammar and usage reference);

·      proofread revised draft;

·      present a final copy according to purpose (for example, read aloud, display, publish, mail, send, and perform).

 

5.    apply traits of voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions by:*

·      including an original idea with interesting details for support;

·      including logical, clear, sequencing and effective paragraphing;

·      using transitions to connect main ideas;

·      writing with an individual perspective and/or personal treatment of a topic;

·      using new and different words;

·      using descriptive words;

·      using words for specificity;

Conventions

 

1.    Spelling:

·      correctly spell 400 high frequency words;*

·      use reference materials to write unknown words;

·      apply complex spelling patterns and rules;*

·      correctly spell regular plurals.*

 

2.    Grammar:

·      correctly use parts of speech including adjectives;*

·      recognize adverbs;

·      correctly use synonyms, antonyms, homonyms and multiple meaning words;
