To support preschoolers in acquiring literacy skills it is important to remember:
Young children
are capable learners and adults should hold high expectations of them.
They learn
through active exploration and discovery.
Children should be immersed in environments that expose them to a
variety of written materials used for a variety of purposes. Appropriate, numerous interactions with
adults and peers, such as daily reading, responsive conversations, fostering an
interest and enjoyment of reading and writing, can influence literacy learning.
