3541.7 Cell Phone Use/Driving

1) Never operate a cellular phone while simultaneously operating a school vehicle. Pull over at a safe spot to make the call.

2) Never--no matter whose vehicle--operate a cellular phone while simultaneously operating a vehicle in which school children are being transported. Pull over at a safe spot to make the call.

Rationale: “A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine (February 13, 1997) found that those who talk on the telephone while driving were four times more likely to crash than their silent counterparts--or about the same increase in risk involved in driving with a blood-alcohol level at the legal limit.”
