5300 Student Rights and Responsibilities

5310 Internet Use Agreement


It is the responsibility of all instructors/employees to inform students/staff under their care of this policy and to see that the policy is strictly enforced.

Students using the Internet and World Wide Web will be under the direct supervision of the instructor.

Acceptable Uses: Examples of appropriate conduct include but are not limited to...

• Use consistent with the Moffat County School District goals
  
• Use of technology, including the Internet for Board-approved, curriculum-related activities
  
• Use that encourages efficient, cooperative and creative methods to perform the user’s educational tasks or job obligations
  
• Providing unique resources to and collaborative projects with Board-approved, educational partners
  
• Students’ right to free speech also applies to their communication on the Internet.
  
• MCSD Network and all related resources are considered a limited forum (comparable to the school newspaper) and therefore MCSD may lawfully restrict your speech for valid educational reasons.
  

• Use of the Internet and other technology for anything but Board-approved, curriculum-related activities
  
• Use of technology for a commercial, political, or profit-making enterprise, except as specifically agreed to by MCSD
  
• Accessing or distributing inappropriate material (i.e., abusive, threatening, obscene, harassing material (sexual, religious, racial), or any material specifically prohibited by federal, state, or local law)
  
• Sending or displaying offensive pictures, messages, pornography, etc.
  
• Use of obscene language
  
• Harassing, insulting or attacking others
  
• Making a malicious attempt to harm or destroy data of another user, the Internet, or any agencies or other networks
  
• Use of the Internet for malicious or unlawful activities
  
• Improper access of information (unauthorized use of the Internet chat rooms; network-intensive games; unauthorized e-mail accounts such as Hot Mail, Yahoo Mail, etc.)
  
• Use of unauthorized software, hardware, printers with district technology or printing non-school-related materials using district technology
  
• Load non-school-owned software on MCSD owned hardware
  
• Behavior in violation of copyright laws, district policy or regulations, federal laws, or state statutes
  
• Student users will not post personal contact information about themselves or others on the Internet or World Wide Web. (This includes: first and last name, address, e-mail address, telephone number, social security number, and personal photograph)

I understand and will abide by the Internet Use Agreement. I further understand that any violation of this policy is unethical and may constitute a criminal offense. Should I commit any violation, my access privileges may be revoked. School disciplinary action and/or appropriate legal action may be taken.

PARENT OR GUARDIAN

As the parent or guardian of this student, I have read the Internet Use Agreement. I understand that this access is designed for educational purposes. I recognize it is impossible for the Moffat County School District to restrict access to all controversial materials, and I will not hold them responsible for materials acquired on the network. I hereby give permission for my child to use the Moffat County School District’s Internet services and certify that the information contained on this form is correct.
