5320 Student Fees, Fines and Charges


Purpose
To adopt a written fee schedule of student fees, a schedule of depreciation for textbook damages, to indicate whether the fees are mandatory or voluntary, and how to apply for a waiver of fees.

Textbook Fees
Beginning with the 1999-2000 school year textbook fees will be:
Moffat County High School $15.00
Craig Middle School $11.00
Craig Intermediate School $11.00
Elementary Schools $ 8.00

Textbook fees are mandatory. Payment of the textbook fee will allow students free admission into all school sponsored events in grades 7-12 excluding tournaments.

Fines for lost, damaged or defaced textbooks
Fines for lost textbooks will be replacement cost. Fines for damaged or defaced textbooks will be computed on the following basis:
Year 1 Original cost of book
Year 2 Original cost of book minus 20%
Year 3 Original cost of book minus 40%
Year 4 Original cost of book minus 60%
Year 5 Original cost of book minus 80%

Activity/Athletic Fees
Fees for participation in identified activities for grades 7 - 12, and will be assessed according to Regulation 5574 as a condition of participating in or attending a school sponsored activity or program not within the academic portion of the educational program.

Driver Education Fees

$200.00

Waiver of fees and fines
All fees, fines and charges shall be waived for indigent students. Students eligible for a free or reduced price lunch under the federal poverty income guidelines may request an information release from the Food Service Department which must be given to the building principal for consideration of the waiving of school fees.

Notification
At the beginning of the school year, students, parents and guardians will be notified of the fees, fines, and procedure for waiver of fees.

Enforcement
Letters encouraging payment will be sent to the parents/guardians of students who have not paid the required fees at three, six, and nine weeks after the beginning of the school year. If the fees continue to be unpaid, the matter may be turned over to a private collection agency.
