Athletics is an important part of the Moffat County School educational program. Participation in athletics should be a part of the education of as many students as is practical and possible. Participation in athletics should contribute to the development of physical skills and emotional maturity, health and happiness, social competence and moral value. Competition and cooperation are both components of the American way of life.
Athletics for purposes of clarification shall be defined as "Any physical competition between individuals or teams that is not a part of the regularly scheduled curriculum."
General Policy
All students participating in athletics are required to provide school authorities (Building Principals or Activities Director) with written permission from their parent or guardian to try out for and participate on athletic teams, athletic contests and to travel with teams. Such permits are to be filed in the buildings of the respective principals.
All students must be physically capable of engaging in vigorous activities. Physical examination by a doctor shall be required before a student is permitted to participate.
Because there are legal implications involved in management of pupils with chronic debilitating conditions and their participation in school activities, Moffat County School District Re: 1 will require a statement from a physician who is treating those children with conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes, rheumatic fever, etc., which will indicate the degree of participation in school activities.
Athletic or accident insurance as approved by the administration shall be extended to each participant, and the cost shall be borne by the parents. No student will be permitted to engage in athletic activities without being properly insured either through insurance offered through the school, or family coverage. Said coverage will be so indicated on parent approval statement.
