Introduction

This lesson was created for a Moffat County Teacher Development program class called "Using the Computer to Enhance Instruction II".

You will use the resources provided from the internet to look up information on the Club Drug Ecstasy and you will be able to communicate what you have learned through a variety of methods (see Process section).

Learners

This lesson is anchored in eighth grade health and involves speech and writing skills to a lesser extent.

You will not need to know anything about Ecstasy before starting this lesson.  All the information you will need to complete this WebQuest will be gathered as you go through the webquest.

Curriculum Standards

What will you learn as a result of this lesson?

Health Standards Addressed

  • Distinguish how specific drugs are classified.
  • Recognize symptoms of drug use in teens and resources that may be available for help with recovery from addiction.
  • Determine possible consequences of drug use.
  • Identify facts on teen drug use and abuse.

Process

(Use the back button to go back to the main page after viewing the link)

#1.  The first thing you should do is print off the Ecstasy Worksheet.   As you are going through the resources (found under the Resource Section) and reading the information you will be able to answer the questions.  This may take you one to two class periods using the classroom computers.

#2.  Once you've read the resources and completed the worksheet, you will need to print off the Ecstasy Essay form.  Organize your thoughts and write a two paragraph essay on why you believe ecstasy use is on the rise with teens and what you believe can be done to help the problem.  You should be able to compete this task in one class period.

#3.  After completing the essay, you will need to print off the Ecstasy Oral Presentation form to help you organize your thoughts in preparing for the 10 minute speech you will give to the class on the information you've learned on Ecstasy.  You will need to print in color the visuals of a person's brain on ecstasy and ecstasy use by teens.  You will use one class period to organize your thoughts, one class period to write a rough draft speech, and 10 minutes during a class period to present the speech when you have it prepared.

Resources Needed

Evaluation

My evaluation of your successful WebQuest will be based on these three things:

  • A correct and complete Ecstasy worksheet
  • A neatly done and grammatically correct two paragraph essay in your own words.
  • A well prepared and fluent 10 minute speech on "Teen Use of Ecstasy".

Conclusion

By the time you finish this WebQuest, you will be very informed on teen use of Ecstasy, the resulting consequences and what you could do to help.
