Introduction
This unit was developed by Moffat County High School teachers as part of the Vanguard for Technology Integration Program.

The object of this unit is to teach students to recognize verisimilitude in literature and to use it in their own writing and speaking.

Learners

This lesson is anchored in high school language arts.  It can be adapted for students in lower levels and for any language.

    Along with the content standards, the student will also be encouraged to practice inference making, critical thinking, creative production, observation, and comparison and contrast.



The Tasks

The object of this unit is to teach students to recognize verisimilitude in literature and to use it in their own writing and speaking.

  • understanding words relating to verisimilitude
  • identifying the elements of verisimilitude in writing;
  • applying versimilitude to identify characters;
  • creating verisimilitude by the use of active verbs;
  • creating verisimilitude by the use of sensory detail;
  • identifying verisimilitude in literature;
  • creating a character sketch using verisimilitude.

-This unit will familiarize you with the term verisimilitude. This unit is made of six tasks, each building on the other.  Each task has its own icon represented by the five senses and the brain.  For example, if you click on the eye icon, then you will go to the task identifying verisimilitude in writing. Remember to complete the tasks in order.

Now that you have completed this extensive lesson, you should be able to define verisimilitude, identify it in a given text, and demonstrate it in your own writing.  Remember to use the various techniques of verisimilitude that can enliven and enrich your writing.
