MCSD has implemented an ELL program in each building in the district. This service includes grades K-12. We provide services in conjunction with State and Federal guidelines to provide an individualized program for each ELL student. The CELA (Colorado English Language Assessment) and Woodcock-Munoz test is used for our Hispanic students to determine placement and services needed.

Gifted Education

Many students in Moffat County School District are high achievers in academics, arts, leadership, creativity, cognitive ability, or a combination of those areas.  Some of these students may meet the district’s criteria for the gifted education program.  The following summary provides information regarding the process and program.

If you think that your child may be gifted, please contact your child’s teacher or Vera Turner, Gifted Education Coordinator, 826-6337, vera.turner@moffatsd.org.  Additional information regarding gifted education can be obtained on the website for Colorado Department of Education, http://www.cde.state.co.us/gt

Identification Process
Moffat County School District uses a combination of parent referrals, teacher referrals, non-verbal cognitive assessments, and standardized test scores (such as CSAP) to help identify students who may be gifted cognitively or academically (click on Identification Process link above for more information).  Each component is assigned a point value and then the student’s points are added to acquire a composite score.

Delivery of Services

All students, including those with gifted capabilities, receive differentiated instruction within the general education setting.  Those who have been identified as gifted may be grouped during a portion of the day or they may be placed in advanced classes.  Students in high school can also access dual credit courses in cooperation with Colorado Northwest Community College.

Advanced Learning Plans
Students who have been identified as gifted help create an Advanced Learning Plan (click link above for sample form).  This plan includes information on the student’s abilities, goals, and family involvement.  Each year, the plan is revised to reflect the student’s current interests and goals, as well as to document growth on previous goals.
