Superintendent's Message

By David Ulrich Ed. D.

Parents of Moffat County School District students,

In preparation for the 2017-18 school year, the proposed calendar includes starting a week earlier for students. Specifically, students would start on Monday, August 21.  The proposed calendar does not interfere with the 2017 Moffat County Fair. The 2017-18 school year would end a week earlier as well.

This option has multiple specific advantages:

  • First and second semesters would be more even. The current calendar has 79 days in the first semester and 92 days in the second semester. The proposed calendar would have 84 days in the first semester and 87 days in the second semester.
  • The proposed calendar would match up with the majority of western slope districts.
  • Starting a week earlier would match up with Colorado Northwest Community College's start of the year.  This would be an advantage for our junior and senior students concurrently enrolled in dual credit classes.
  • Starting earlier would allow us an additional week for teachers to ensure our students are as prepared as possible on the standards they are assessed on in the spring.

Using the information provided in this letter, the Board of Education and I would like to know whether this change will have an impact on you and your family.  Please take time to fill out a brief survey:

 Parent Survey

It is my intention to take the 2017-18 calendar to the Board of Education for approval on Thursday, 27 April.

Thank you and have a great day!

David Ulrich Ed. D.

David Ulrich, Ed.D.

SchoolBlocks offers a unique and powerful personalized search system. A member of the public, searching for "homework" might see an announcement from the school as the first result. However, if the user is logged in, they would see their teacher’s latest homework assignment as the top result.
