National Honor Society (NHS) membership has been the true mark of student achievement for over 100 years, but it goes far beyond a report card. By empowering, championing, and recognizing well-rounded students, NHS provides schools with a values-based framework to elevate a culture of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
NHS chapters operate in all 50 states and many schools around the world, engaging and serving more than 1.4 million students. Each year, the average NHS chapter contributes:
- 1,000 hours of school/community service
- $26,000 in charitable donations
- 1,000 pounds of food to local, state, and national causes
- 100 pints of blood
DECA is an international organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. Our school’s DECA chapter focuses on helping students build real-world skills in business and leadership through hands-on learning and competition.
One of the key components of our DECA program is the student-run school store. DECA members take the lead in managing all aspects of the store—including sales, marketing, inventory management, pricing strategies, and customer service. This unique opportunity gives students real experience in running a business and applying classroom knowledge to real-life scenarios.
In addition to operating the store, students compete in regional, state, and national DECA competitions in categories such as retail merchandising, entrepreneurship, hospitality, and business finance. Members also participate in leadership conferences, community service projects, and networking events with industry professionals.
DECA is the perfect place for students who want to gain business experience, grow their leadership potential, and prepare for careers in a competitive, fast-paced world.
FBLA is a national student organization that prepares members for careers in business through academic competitions, leadership development, and educational programs. Our local FBLA chapter is dedicated to helping students grow personally and professionally while building skills in communication, critical thinking, and entrepreneurship.
Students in FBLA have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of events and activities, including competitive events at the district, state, and national levels in areas such as marketing, finance, public speaking, and management. Members also take part in leadership conferences, business tours, community service projects, and school-based activities that promote career readiness and civic responsibility.
A highlight of our program includes hands-on learning in the Biz Lab, where students design and create merchandise to sell in the student-run school store. This real-world experience helps members apply business concepts in marketing, product development, and retail operations.
Whether you're interested in starting your own business or learning more about the world of business, FBLA is a great place to explore your potential and connect with like-minded peers.
FFA is an intracurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. It is one of the three components of agricultural education.
What do the letters FFA stand for?
The official name of the organization is the National FFA Organization.
The letters “FFA” stand for Future Farmers of America. These letters are a part of our history and our heritage that will never change. But FFA is not just for students who want to be production farmers; FFA also welcomes members who aspire to careers as teachers, doctors, scientists, business owners and more. For this reason, the name of the organization was updated in 1988 after a vote of national convention delegates to reflect the growing diversity and new opportunities in the industry of agriculture.
Today, the National FFA Organization remains committed to the individual student, providing a path to achievement in premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
FFA continues to help the next generation rise up to meet those challenges by helping its members to develop their own unique talents and explore their interests in a broad range of agricultural career pathways. So today, we are still the Future Farmers of America. But, we are the Future Biologists, Future Chemists, Future Veterinarians, Future Engineers and Future Entrepreneurs of America, too.

What Is FIRST Robotics®
The mission of FIRST® is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators. In this program we work as a team to build and program a robot to complete tasks set for us. The members of team #7485 have learned a multitude of skills and received a plethora of first-hand knowledge from our mentors that have helped us every step of the way. All of us are looking forward to competing and working together with other teams to put our new skills of robotics, programming, and mechanics to the test.
Providing a stepping stone for Moffat County’s future employees who are not only trained in technical skills but also business and communication.
History
MoCo Robo was started in 2019 to fill a niche.
There are limited STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) programs in Moffat County for the kids in high school. FIRST Robotics provides a challenging and intense extracurricular STEM program that is both educational and competitive. It is the sport for future scientists and engineers. While we are not the only Robotics program in Moffat County, we are quickly becoming the most successful and competitive on a world stage.
Funding
FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is a life-changing program, but it doesn’t come cheap. Our annual operating costs are around $30,000. We have the support of the Moffat County School District, however, we can not rely solely on the District for funding. We are seeking sources of funding that will allow the program to continue providing a great experience for the students.
Current
From our home at the Moffat County High School, MoCo Robo is currently one of the youngest and most successful robotics teams in Colorado. At our second Regional competition, we finished with an individual ranking of 22nd and our Alliance secured the #2 ranking overall. We have now qualified for the Championships in Houston, TX in April and will face Robotics teams from around the world.
We are always seeking to improve the program and reaching out for sponsorships, mentorship and recruitment. One of the most powerful things about our program is that we teach not only engineering skills, but also budgeting, marketing, business development, media, project management and public speaking.
Future
MoCo Robo participants become better high school students, who then turn into better college students, future employees and finally business leaders that will pilot Moffat County into the future. We are excited to provide a stepping stone to many students on this path. We are making efforts to reach out to the community to find more stable funding to ensure the longevity of our program.
Moffat County High School Rodeo is led by Joyce Barnes and competes in most standard rodeo events.
